Presidential Dollar Coins Have a Place in the Sun – One Page Punch

in #prepping7 years ago

Those copper presidential coin dollars you would receive from vending machines are pretty nifty, but may also be a SHTF instrument.

At present, El Salvador and Ecuador uses the U.S. Dollar as their national currency, and these coins are their daily change. I have friends from these countries and they’ve told me how prevalent these coins are over there. And yet, there are still millions upon millions of these coins stored away at the Federal Reserve because people here in the U.S. don’t want them, but the U.S. Mint keeps making them. Why?

According to the U.S. Mint, they want a coin for every dead president, but maybe there’s another reason, a more practical reason why the mint is still running the machines stamping out these 88.5% copper coins.

Could it be possible that these coins could replace paper money? Let’s be real, the Federal Reserve Note is not going to last forever. People will eventually want U.S. Treasury money in their pocket for use in trade. But you might ask, “At this point, wouldn’t inflation and/or hyperinflation make these coins worthless due to their face value?” Not necessarily, because if the economy is reset and the government takes one or two zeros off the national currency, then these coins will have purpose in everyday life and the government will begin to disperse these coins around the nation.

So knocking off two zeros off the currency, a nickel would have the buying power of $5.00, a quarter $25.00 and one of these Presidential coins will have the buying power of a $100.00.

Now I don’t know if all of this will happen, although the story certainly seems plausible. But another aspect I do like about these coins are their SHTF utility. Let’s say I have a hundred of these coins in a jar, and Hurricane Sandy times five happens, well, these coins are great for paying for things at your local vendor. They don’t take up too much space, they are well known, they are U.S. currency and they are U.S. Treasury money. On top of that, they are mostly copper and have inherent value in their metal price. Not a bad piece of insurance. Stack your hundred coins today!
