Is Prepping CRAZY? Or Prudent?

in #prepping6 years ago

Today I wanted to talk about my interest in preparing for the future, why it is important and what actions I take in preparing.

First though, why do people act like "prepping" is crazy or silly? On the contrary, it seems to me that preparation is actually prudent and reasonable, and failing to prepare for your future safety and lifestyle is the irresponsible and silly choice. In fact, given the concerns around our environment, exponential population growth, and the Earth's diminishing ability to sustain that growth.

It seems like Chris Martenson, author of Prosper: How to Prepare for the Future and Create a World Worth Inheriting, is perfectly correct in arguing: "the next 20 years will be completely unlike the the last 20".

And if so, then taking some steps today should be a priority for more people.

What can you do to prepare for an unknown future?

  • Improve your fitness
  • Set aside physical wealth: silver, gold and physical cash dollars.
  • Develop relationships with family and friends, who you can count on in the event of some catastrophic event
  • Grow in faith. Faith enables hope and hope offers deep and lasting resiliency.
  • Food: Buy and set aside several weeks worth of long term food stores.
  • Fun: Be sure to prepare for entertainment, might seem trivial but fun is an important part of life.

I talk about all this and more, in the linked video.

Conclusion:

There is no question that preparing for future uncertainty is responsible, and prudent, so take action today before it is too late. In the end, if nothing happens, great! But if the unlikely does transpire, you will thank yourself, and perhaps you will be positioned to protect and serve people who can't help themselves.

Chris Martenson says something I like: preparing for the future now is responsible, preparing after a crisis has begun is greedy, irresponsible hording. During a time of crisis, many people will desperately need what is in limited supply... will you be one of them, or not?

Thanks guys, have an awesome day, and God bless.

I agree that it's important to be ready. Why would it be crazy to prepare for difficult situations that are becoming more and more likely to occur? We don't say people are crazy for getting health insurance or car insurance. Why would we say they're crazy for getting insurance food and money?

I don't think I'll be able to get as much food as there is in the first picture, but we do have a small reserve food supply in case something happens. It won't last us forever, but it will at least hold off the hunger for a while.

As the Boy Scouts say, "Be Prepared."

Bingo! Completely agree.

That picture is not of my supply. But we have a few BIG bags of rice, potatoes, canned beans and tomatoes, and frozen goods.

I plan to buy some 10 gallon water bottles. And a food dehydrator.

Thanks dude. Have a great day!

Have you considered getting a Berkey for filtering your water? I figured that will be helpful if the water supply is contaminated. They're rather spendy, but clean water isn't cheap... especially when things go crazy.

Ill look into that.

I was planning on buying some kind of rain catcher, i can store a BIG one under my deck out of the way, and it will stay cool.

Everyone should have something put away for a few months worth of supplies.

Yep. Lots of people disagree but they are wrong.

When something happens, and so many things can happen (economic collapse, solar flare, war, job loss, environmental collapse, earthquake), people who have not prepared will suffer needlessly.
