RE: Sour Grapes? -- or "There Ain't No Jobs In The Country"..

in #prepper7 years ago

For a prepper, I can't see the benefit of Pastor Joe trying to entice so many people to go live in the Ozarks. I'm guessing that there is a real good reason why the Ozarks isn't very populated in some areas. Having a bunch of off-grid newbies attempting to stake a claim is only going to end up with Pastor Joe having a much larger flock than he can handle. Just sayin'

You bring up a song I've been singing for decades, i.e., " don't bite off more than you can chew"... And for most city folks moving into a totally different environment is more than they can do. So, I agree with you, Deanlogic; however, I also know that "country" means different things to different people. I think it's totally feasible for city folks to relocate to a large town ( population greater than 5000) which is surrounded by countryside... A family could move and obtain employment and buy a few acres outside of city limits and have a pretty decent life... But to uproot and head out deep in the sticks? No...

Yea, I'm all for downsizing from large urban to small town. I agree, that it would be a perfect first step for a life long city dweller.
Around here, however, all the small towns have turned into a big sprawling urban area.

The biggest issue is jobs, as Pastor Joe alludes to, but with today's technology, working form home should be doable. It just takes companies to realize the benefit of not having a ton of office space. When you are used to making a good salary, it is hard to contemplate moving to a small town and making much less. It requires a mindset change and that usually requires a significant life changing event.
