Wildlife Watching In Jasper National Park

in #powerhousecreatives5 years ago (edited)

Good Morning!

We are having "I don't think we are in Kansas anymore, Toto" here since yesterday. The wind is crazy strong. Teeny super slim child could definitely blown away, I kid you not. Don't get them those helium balloons even if it's their birthday. They would escape us! -grins-

Our inet been having tummy issues as well due to this super strong wind, along with our electricity. Lights keep flickering -.- Here is crossing fingers at least the roof will stay!

But enough about this silly wind. What I really want to share this morning is our lovely time, wildlife watching while we were road tripping, hiking and climbing, to and around The Rockies.

When you are going to the Rocky Mountains, Jasper would offer the best for wildlife watching, in my opinion. Granted, I have not been to the American side, just the Canadian side, and on the Canadian side, am totally recommending Jasper National Park.

It's a treat when you can spot them, but it's not a rare occasion (in Jasper), so you would definitely be treated to awesome view and scenery and lifetime memory.

I mean, check out these mountain goats, they are just too funny, adorable, and definitely wow factor. Climbing those kind of rocks? Hahaha, I would definitely roll down like a barrel of wine.

In and around Jasper National Park, you would be able to see and meet, bears! Yikes. I don't want to meet them, of course, not even when inside a stopped car, no, no, dear Sir. That would have been something, something scary lol. For the few times we went to Jasper National Park, we have not been lucky enough to spot them (or maybe we were in luck, I guess), but we did see white wolf on frozen river (I totally said Jon Snow when I spotted it lol), black and brown wolves, elk, moose, caribou, tons of mountain goats, butterfly :P, and grouses. Grouses are rather stoopid, they love crossing the road and would stop in front of your car, and just relax there, not moving whatsoever, not knowing that is dangerous to them, or that we want them to not get squashed :P

At gift shops, they always seem to display cows and sheep too, but we have not seen them at all whenever we went to Jasper National Park, so not too sure where to spot them. But yes, definitely tons of funny mountain goats.

You can also go for bird watching, but you would have to go on trails into the woods for those and they have certain spots for those. Unlike the wildlife I mentioned above, they are almost everywhere. Most of the times, crossing the highway and whatnot.

My little babes are always amazed with such view, whenever the wildlife crossing the road and drivers are just that great to never hit any of them. I told them that drivers (including us) were lucky those wildlife did not run/jump as deer would. They are the ones usually would hit the cars and cause accident. But animals that we met like the wolves for example, they just slowly crossing.

On the Rockies itself, there are not really animals to see but butterflies, which I always find it to be odd, as there on the Rockies, not many plants around but rocks or snow, you know. So what does that mean? They stop there for the scenery? :P Well, maybe when you go to the Rockies in Summer would be different, but the few times we went there, it was always either late Fall or early Spring, so not so green, still tons of snow, etc, and there were just no plants. I do not have the slightest idea why there are butterflies on the rocks.

So yeah, if you are thinking on hiking the Rockies, go to the Jasper National Park, much better in my opinion :) You would still be able to go to Banff, Whistlers, etc from there, but you will be able to watch more of the wildlife :)

Thanks for looking!

Sort:

Butterflies sitting on rocks is called "Kinesiology" and it means that they keep warm on the rocks in cold weather. Butterflies use their surroundings to keep warm.
A beautiful post here and I would so love to get into those woods, but I don't like trails, as I normally make my own way over here.
Blessings!

thanks for the info on the butterflies @papilloncharity

I was wondering what they were doing on the rocks as well!

My pleasure my friend!
Blessings!

Huge fan of the wolf photos! Goats are definitely a favorite jokester but wolves have such a raw power to them. Lovely coloring of that one you "captured"

Ok so I love your shots and yea I agree Jasper is the place for wildlife 👌

One question... what’s that steemit world map thing about?

Posted using Partiko iOS

It's for mapping tourists spots, travels related, or places/landmarks and whatnot

its been around for awhile, a year at least?

too bad many kinda spam it with whatever. so the map have tons of pins that are not related to travels...i mean, some would even map their birthday or daily thing they do at home lol too cute
