The Impact of our Work | Seven years after we planted trees and flowers in C.B.C Menda Baptist Primary School

Mallory's hand planting: Mallory is one of @thegreens' pioneer international volunteers from Phoenix - Arizona.

Today I visited C.B.C Menda Baptist Primary School in Mile 3 Nkwen, a school we started to promote environmental education in since 2012 and we were amazed with the impact of our work in the institution.
These are pictures from our work in 2013 and I was fortunate to find just one picture of one of our international volunteer’s hand, planting a tree.

Seven years, after i (@mr-greens) visited the institution to verify the impact of our work and behold, the little plants we planted had grown this big.

These are pictures i took from the institution and they really inspire.
I (@mr-greens) met and spoke with one teacher who was there seven years ago and she told me some of the impacts and benefits of our work as follows;

  • The trees and flowers have improved birdlife and attracted a lot of bees around the school campus
  • The trees and flowers have really beautified their school campus and also attracted more parents to send their children to their school, hence improved pupil enrolment.
  • The trees and flowers serve as wind brakes during the dry season
  • The trees and flowers have greatly assisted them in the Science and Nature Studies as teaching aids
  • People from around the community have propagated the flowers and some have harvested the tree branches for medicine.
    The benefits were really inspiring and amazing and we are planing to do a video documentary of this wherein the teachers who were there in 2012 will share their stories as well as some pupils and the management of the institution.

Today, my hope for change increased and i am motivated to do more. I just wish to end by saying:
"The best time to plant a tree that you failed to plant yesteryears is NOW. The best time to plant a tree that you wish to plant in the future is NOW.
The best time to plant a tree is NOW"

Brilliant job @thegreens!! Yes, it takes that long!! We NEED to get more passionate about seeds, seedlings, planting and nurturing now, for the next decade's children.
