Proudly Non G.M.O

in #powerhousecreatives5 years ago (edited)

This is depicted on my heirloom seeds.

It is something that I wanted to mention some time ago.
For myself, I am so against anything that is G.M.O. and that is why I grow organically.

There are some companies that do mark their products as G.M.O. here in S.A. - but sadly not that many - leaving the consumer in the dark.
The more one reads up on this topic, the more I am convinced that this should never have happened - in years to come, I believe that the effects will be devastating - even today, how many people do you know that are suffering from allergies and other disorders.

Maize is a staple diet for many african countries - try and find a packet that is not G.M.O.

I would urge everyone to become informed on this topic and to put pressure on the suppliers - we need to be informed as to what we are eating - and to my mind, G.M.O. products should be avoided.
What are your thoughts?

To be honest I am alot more concerned about petrochemicals pesticides antibiotics etc. Those chemicals are dangerous and carbon footprint can be massive. GMO has a bad rep because of ignorance, fake news and perhaps more rationally -- they copyright seeds, which isn't really an issue unless you are stealing their superior seeds. They are tested a lot more than anything organic. They promise to develop crops that require a lot less water, chemical, and oil input which higher yields and more nutrition.
In 20 to 50 years the anti-GMO crowd will be looked at like the anti-vaxxer crowd. A lotbof hippies and naturalists may disagree but I know a lot of farmers, scientists amd people who study this stuff. It's ironic because when it comes to medicine we can't get enough GMOs but for some reason when it comes to seeds we don't want them.

Yes there are many things that I am concerned about as well as GMO foods etc., - but we can all do something - big business will defend GMO's because they make big money -it is a personal choice as to what we accept.

It is definitely a personal choice. I 100% support labeling of products. We have no problems with our medical researchers and doctors making huge money and using science. However for food it seems we want agricultural scientists and farmers to not get money for research.

Yes we all need to be informed - especially when it comes to our food.

I agree that the effects of GMO plants and non-organic growing practices will continue to compound until we truly have no way to keep ignoring them. We try to get organic and non gmo whenever we can, but it does seem like some heirloom species have been completely erased by industrialization.

Indeed -when laws try to ban the sharing of seeds, we have to ask ourselves why?
