PowerHouseCreatives Contest | My Movie Review Selection is LOVE !!

Thanks to @zord189, here I am once again with yet another submission for the @powerhousecreatives contest and it's Movie Review week. Any movie between 2013 to 2018. Now, how difficult could this be.. More like how difficult could it be to select a movie that I enjoy so much that I would critic it over and over again.

And my Movie Review selection goes to Crazy Rich Asians !

Unknown.jpg

This movie plot is based upon the novel written by Kevin Kwan with 2 more other books by him called China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems. I think he's fame when sky high when the movie was announced to the world. An American 2018 movie staring top movie celebrities such as Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Dato Michelle Yeoh. The plot is all about an American-Chinese professor who travels to meet her boyfriend's family and is overly surprised to discover they are among the richest aristocrat in Singapore.

Before I start being a critic about this movie, you need to know that this film received numerous nominations from the 76th Golden Globe Awards, 24th Critics' Choice Awards and 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards. That's how popular this film was and not only in the American and British but most importantly in the Asia Pacific.

Being a citizen of the SEA countries, I had so much pride and honour to know that my country was apart of the destinations for the filming. The directors show the beauty of the places such as Penang, Langkawi & Kuala Lumpur in this film. Of course the highlight had to be in Singapore, showcasing the magnificently tall Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay and even Newton Circus Food Court.

There's so many things that I enjoyed about the movie.

i) The multiple languages used in the movie
This shows that in this small country called Singapore and it's surrounding neighboring countries like Malaysia, multiple languages are used and there are mixtures of food and culture. Also proves to say that people are able to live peacefully although they come from different religions or beliefs.

ii) Beauty of the scenery
Just love where the entire movie was made. Both internal and external locations are picked well to suit the expectations of the story line. Especially when the location of Penang Street and Baba Nyonya Mansion House was featured. I just feel so patriotic !

iii) The selection of actors & actresses
Love them all especially Dato Michelle Yeoh. They couldn't have found a better image of a Women Tyrant for this role. Not that she is in person but her capability to portray the role is just amazing! Just as how she acted as Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese politician, diplomat, author, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate in the movie The Lady.

iv) We all love stories of handsome rich man falling for a mediocre girl

Sweeping her off the feet with First Class service from New York to Singapore
Staying in 5* Luxury Hotel
Asking for her hand in marriage in an economy class plane with everyone watching!

Alright, I'm a sucker for romance but it's because the story line is just so beautiful.
And YES ! I even bought the book so that I could read it on my own.
Not only that, I even brought Part Two of the Book.

Reality check.. Both books are still lying on the TV cabinet and I stare at it every night when I'm watching TV.. Telling myself that I'll read it tomorrow or the day after.
And yet, it's still lying there as it was from the first day I move into my home!

Perhaps, after this post, I shall finally take it out and read.. at least a few pages if not more :)

This was a lovely movie and I really enjoyed watching it! I was actually sad when it did end.

OOO.. No worries.
Part Two is coming out pretty soon, that's what I've been told

Both books are still lying on the TV cabinet and I stare at it every night when I'm watching TV.

Haha, the last books I bought to read are also still sitting unopened. Reminds me of college!

Nice write up! It was definitely fun to read.

I'm sure there's plenty out there that's just like us @wwwiebe
Book lovers and yet never got around to reading it actually.
Maybe it's the sight of having books around me makes me feel good

I love having a book collection too. Studies show that households with more books create children who have higher education levels... even if the kids don't read the books. The stories become a part of their culture and expands their knowledge just by being present and having one person in the household who read them.

I so wish this is true in my household ha ha..
It's like staring at them day and night !
And starting to as well to me OMG !!

Studies show that households with more books create children who have higher education levels... even if the kids don't read the books.

It is true, the information comes from a study that was done in different countries over many years. Simply having the books makes you familiar with the titles, covers, and author names. Having someone who has read them makes them part of your family culture as they inherently become a part of conversations and such.

I LOVE reading and keep lots of books in my house, I find that the kids inevitably flip through them, and they remember the oddest things about them. Just recently, my son told me about a book that we have at his dad's house when he saw a pair of my socks. "Those are the same socks as Cordelia wears! Member Mama?" I was surprised because he must have been three when I did that home school lesson, and it has been at least two years (he's only five).

Oh Wow !!
I guess it does make sense that somewhere along the way, they will eventually relate things to another..
I'm still waiting for that miracle to happen.
Now, it's relating whatever that they're watching from the phone to life or is it the other way around ?

The study had a 50 years duration and concluded before the smart phones came along. I would guess that it would be different with phones, simply because my youngest child is now playing with books that his sister played with, and now all three of my kids have experienced the same books. With phones, the media is not as long lasting so something that a 13 year old saw at 5 probably wont be around 8 years later when the younger sibling is discovering, and if it is, it is competing with that much more media.

I LOVED the movie, but honestly, it didn't do the books any justice. The books are so much better! The second one was my fav.

My favorite part of the movie is when she is at her friends house and the Dad starts talking about how he went to UC Irvine. I was LAUGHING SO HARD because, UC Irvine... great school, had friends to go there, but nothing for crazy rich people to brag about... really.

Really though, read those books if you can. Kitty Pong is the best, and Nick's mom is a lot more... intriguing, and WAY TOO RICH to be playing around in the kitchen adding finishing touches to food - she has people for that.

And the third book when the grandma... well, I won't give it away, just letting you know READ it. They are easy reads too, go fast, and if you love clothes and fashion you can savor those parts and really get into the couture clothes that they have and if you don't (like me) you can just kind of gloss over it, get the jist and still enjoy the book.

Great pick!

Oh and Nick's girlfriend? She's my fav from a show called Fresh of the Boat about a son of immigrant parents who grew up in Miami in the mid 90's. She's hilarious in it and the only reason I wanted to watch the movie/read the books.

Omg !! You read the book??
I so need to read it now and use so right !!
Movies never do justice to the books. That's why I always prefer the books but the movies is like a trailer for me

Yes. I read all three. Kitty Pong is a way more mentioned character in the book, and just how rich Crazy Rich means is a lot more elaborate. Plus there is a lot more drama, a lot more siblings, and a lot more "Rich People Problems." Its definitely a fun read.

Okay.. Now I really have to start on the book!!
U're making me CRAZY.. ha ha

Alright, I'm a sucker for romance but it's because the story line is just so beautiful.
I am the same I choose a romantic movie too
Love Michelle yeoh

Hurray to women power !!
Gosh !! So are we isn't it..

I loved this movie as well @ireenchew :) Beautiful scenery and the actors chosen were great, so fun so watch. I found myself laughing out loud several times, lol I haven't read the book...didn't realize there was a second. I'll definitely have to check them out...although like you I do have a stack of books waiting to be read.

Crazy Rich Asians is definitely hilarious and fun to watch all the time..
No matter how many times I've watched it, it's still so funny
