Ulog 123: Saving The Unwanted

The other day I was coming home after a morning of thrift store shopping and Market Place pick-ups when I saw my favorite nursery having a HUGE sale on their flats of flowers, plants and herbs. It's almost as if my little SUV (which was already loaded down with new found goodies from the stores and Market Place connections) knew my thinking process and turned into the gravel parking lot to see what flowers and other plants I could save on this sweltering and humid day.

Granted to selection was pretty scarce, but I am not a person to give up easy. I started walking the aisles of leftover and forgotten greens, blooms and more when I was able to piece together a flat of plants to take home and save.

Loaded these up into the back of the SUV... some leaves were wilting, but it's hard to see in this image.

I ended up with four zinnia to add a pop of color to the herb area of the garden, four of another flower called fuchsia, two Brussel Sprouts, two varieties of peppers, four leeks and two lemon grass.

What would have cost me over $15 just a week ago, only cost me $2.89 including tax! Now that's a deal!

The pepper plants I got already had peppers growing on them. Which thrilled me!

After giving the entire flat a good dousing of water in hopes of saving these unwanted plants; the soil in their current containers was completely arid, I set to getting them figured out as to where I would plant them around the homestead's gardens.

Some of the flowers I wanted to have in containers, while others would need a more sturdy in the ground residence. So in the heat of the afternoon I started my transplants.

It's always nice to be able to add more plants to the gardens; and I felt good about saving these little ones from a compost pile.

Getting them into fresh soil always a great start to revive them, nice to get plants when they have been discounted down.

Have fun enjoying them now, the miniature carnation in the first photo are quite hardy little plants, hope they take in their new home and thrive @goldendawne
