RE: The "New STEEM" Meme ... Of Ponderings, Plato & Poets
You missed something:
Anarcho-Zealot: “Alright, how about this:
Water, water everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink,
Water, water everywhere,
And not a drop to drink.”
Do you know what that is?”
SteemPonderings: “It’s a quotation from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s famous poem, ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner.’"
Coleridge, yes, but the quote is incorrect:
The correct version is:
Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.
(from https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43997/the-rime-of-the-ancient-mariner-text-of-1834) and my emphasis
You do also know, of course, that the idiomatic use of albatross can also be attributed to Coleridge and this poem?

@fionasfavourites,
You caught me.
You're right, of course ... and I've made that mistake on numerous occasions. I forgot.
To be honest, the reason I (and so many others) make it is because "and not a drop to drink" simply sounds better. The rhythm of the original is cumbersome and doesn't flow as well.
Anyway, as I was quoting my original post I'm going to leave it as is and hope people don't notice, which they wouldn't have had it not been for ...
:-)
