RE: IFC S02R01: The Disappearing Universe

in #powerhousecreatives6 years ago (edited)

Somewhere in there among the expanding and moving of the universe are us. If everything was moving at the same rate would we really notice it? Example would be in a calm sea no winds and only the tidal movement, if we were in a small boat and there was another boat right next to us, would we not both move at the same time and speed, and thus with nothing but a blank horizon, not even notice we are moving?

The red-shift blue-shift stuff is fun to think about, well all of the universe is fun to think about. It does keep us on our toes thinking about it.

Sort:

If everything is moving at the same rate (inertial, thus no acceleration and no gravity), then it is impossible to tell... this was one of the basis for Special Relativity, that there is no preferred inertial reference frame, thus everyone can say that they are at rest and that everything else is moving. This combined with the constant speed of light (c) in all reference frames leads to the weird implications of Space and Time! So, you have hit on one of the fundamental theories of modern physics!

I kind of like the part where I am stationary, and everything is coming to me, but then again, everything includes a lot of garbage, so maybe it is better to go with the flow, as long as it is not a sewer stream.LoL.
