In the coastal region of the largest black nation on earth, there exists riverine communities whose reason for total abandonment by the government, the political big wigs, the elites from such neglected communities and their rulers have displayed a high level neglect, inhumane display towards persons created by God.

In the 21st century where good road network, portable pipe borne water, access to standard health care facilities, well equipped schools should be necessities rather than a cheap point scored by politicians to steal away the future of the down trodden.

Bomadi is a riverine community in Delta state, with peculiar problems not different from the others. Crude oil has proven for decades since its discovery in the Niger Delta region to be a curse than a blessing.

Last year over 60 communities from riverine towns and villages in Delta and Bayelsa states congregated at Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, with a view to confer on the dearth of social amenities and deteriorating security challenges in the oil-rich areas.

The abduction of four foreign missionaries who had been rendering free medical services to riverine communities for over eight years went viral. Enekorogha community was the focal point of discourse and the dastardly act was globally condemned and describes as “wicked and barbaric”.

The people have been neglected, poverty stinks through the coastal lands, no access to health facilities, crime rate and cultism has engaged the youths negatively, killings has taken over the lands, bloods have spilled and desecrated the lands, politicians have deceived the masses and have perpetually plunged them into a state of hopelessness, lack while ignorance, hatred and divisions have grown in the coastal areas.

Oil has been a curse than a blessing to these regions. Where did the leaders miss it, where did they fail to notice the harm and pains these devilish policies and ideologies will cause in years to come?

The price oil in Africa, the Price of diamond that has led to ethnic cleansing in various black nations has cursed rather than bless the lands, our leaders need to take heed.
