How can you expect to make someone else happy if you don't love yourself? At the same time do not depend on that other person to make you happy if you yourself have not found inner happiness? Realise your own potential and inner worth and stop being your own worse enemy ;)
You are very right, we should not depend on others to make us happy and neither should we blame others for our own happiness.
