Good use of the available lights @winstonwolfe. You've also used the flash accurately to not mess up lights in the background. I don't know how you did it but it really looks like hard work.

This was actually shot right in the middle of the party. Pics like this many times were by total chance with the timing of the ever-changing lighting systems. Back in those days I usually shot with something like 1/3 sec shutter on ISO 800 with a flash either on the end of a tether cable at arm's length (in this case to the left) or wireless. If you'd like to view it, here's the rest of the event.
You've got great stability for 1/3 shutter speed and the pic doesn't look too noisy even at 800 ISO. Don't me so modest about your skills now :) I will definitely check the rest of the event.
It's all about the flash. ;-)
Even at 1/3 sec, the pop of the flash is way faster than that.
