Lost Fingers and Lilting Voices — A #PortraitContest Entry featuring Valerie Amyot

A beauty inside and out, with the pipes to match.

As an entry into the ongoing portrait contest @jasonrussell is hosting, here's one of my favourite shots of Valerie Amyot, the leading lady from gypsy-jazz eclectic quartet The Lost Fingers. (They are seriously awesome if you like fancy vocal covers or electro swing!)

And here are some adorable outtakes from trying to get the angle just right, because her smile is infectious and she is pure delight.

As an added bonus, here's a video (obviously not mine) of one of their ridiculously catchy live sessions with a bunch of covers — it's a weird and enjoyable little piece of the Canadian music soundscape, to get your toe tapping for the night.

All of these photos are my own, taken on my travels all over this pretty blue marble of ours. I hope you like them.

That is an amazing photo, seriously! Well worth the outtakes! I struggle taking photos of people...this is fantastic.

I totally suck at it as well (I'm running out of entry material), but a broken clock is right twice a day! It's the beauty of digital photography... take as many as you have to, and somewhere in there, eventually something will stand out as THE ONE.

It really is. Since our trip to Italy I have been taking more and more photos, and that is by far the best part about going digital. I can take as many as I want, and I really need to do quantity over quality too right now lol. Gives me a chance to get at least one good shot out of the bunch ;)
