Remember the new year photo? Well, it seems like a good sign. Although Mike Portnoy has reiterated on several occasions that he maintains contact and great friendship with his former Dream Theater colleagues, the image that appeared on the first day of 2018 would have something more to offer.
Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci would soon see each other again in a recording studio, the drummer said with a message on his official Twitter account.
On March 10, the self-titled debut album of the Liquid Tension Experiment supergroup turned 20, so Mike Portnoy took the opportunity to give good news to all the progressive fans. "Shit, it's been 20 years now, my God, how's the time ... Happy birthday number 20, LTE @JPetrucci @Jcrudess @tonylevin Let's do the LTE3 someday!", Can be read in one of the Drummer's publications.
Liquid Tension Experiment was founded by former Dream Theater drummer, Mike Portnoy. Portnoy first invited keyboardist Jordan Rudess and progressive rock icon Tony Levin (bass in King Crimon and Peter Gabriel's band) to join the group. In his instructive video "Liquid Drum Theater", Portnoy said his first choice for the position of guitarist was Dimebag Darrell, but he could not join due to a schedule issue. Two other main options were Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs, Kansas, Deep Purple) and Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), but they were not available either. Portnoy then turned to John Petrucci, a member of the Dream Theater, to fill the position (although he initially wanted to keep the project completely separate from Dream Theater).
Holy shit !!! It's been 20 years already ??? My God, how time flies ....
