Beast from the East Returns : Ponds Update

After the chaos caused by the Beast from the East. I assumed we'd seen the worst of the winter. So i had a good spell in the garden tidying up and preparing the ponds for summer. Only to watch as the snows returned

Top Pond

I removed the air stone from the pond and had a tidy up including removing dead leaves and plants from the pond and cleaning mud and bird droppings from the slabs.

Lower Pond

I also removed the air stone from this pond and cleared the dead leaves and dirt from the bottom of the pond. Checked on the fish and they all looked OK if a bit sluggish due to the cold water.

Micro Pond

The Micro pond has taken a battering and probably needs a full clean out to prepare it for the frog and toad season. I will be making a winter cover for this pond before next year to protect it from the falling leaves.

Pond Filters

I did actually clean these out and started up the moving bed filters but the return of the cold has put a stop to that freezing out every box.
I will be glad to see the end of the winter and i'm looking forward to another nice summer watching all the wildlife return and the plants back in full bloom.
