Republicans just throwing away competitive governorships this cycle by picking MAGA candidates.

Despite being a very blue state, Massachusetts routinely elects a Republican governor. They've only had one Democratic governor since 1990 (Deval Patrick). But like Maryland, it is likely to flip this election all thanks to choosing extremist MAGA candidates over more moderate alternatives.

Diehl is the Trump-endorsed candidate. And has virtually no chance against the Democratic nominee Healey, who if elected will become Massachusetts' first female governor and the first openly lesbian governor in the US.

The incumbent Republican governor Baker was one of the most popular governors in the country. However he believed Trump should have been impeached for his role in the January 6th insurrection, which was the kiss of death for him among Massachusetts Republicans. He chose not to seek re-election.

The old Conspiracy theory that the Clintons got their old Friend Trump to run for president specifically to destroy the Republican party is so attractive when you see the results produced by the MAGA cult.

But of course the Republicans took the Governor's race in VA.
