The Ship Is Sinking

Yes the first thing I post about is Russiagate, or as I call it, Pretend Watergate. I'm sure you all have noticed the rate big media outlets have been walking back the claim of Russian collusion. NBC News reported that both Democrats and Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee found no direct evidence of any conspiracy with Russia. Shocker, but when you look at the 2 years worth of indictments unrelated to Russian collusion, that is the only logical conclusion. After all, the former head of the CIA, Mike Morell, had said in 2017 if there was something there, Mueller would have it and it would have leaked. Before the midterms, politico did a double warning that not only will you be disappointed, but that Mueller's findings may never be made public. Bob Woodward, famous for bringing down Nixon, wrote a book about Trump and for 2 years looked HARD, for evidence of collusion and espionage and found none. Not too long ago, Jonathan Karl of ABC News said that Mueller's final report will almost certainly be anti-climactic. Now NBC News joins the club.

So after 2 years we went from "OH MY GOD!! BOMBSHELL!! BOMBSHELL!! WE GOT HIM!! THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN!!" to "ok maybe not so much..."? Of course anything to distract us from doing an autopsy on how an experienced candidate could lose to a game show host. However, Rachel Maddow wasn't ready to give up her conspiracy theory just yet.

NBC News stands by its story, which has not been credibly challenged. King appears to be disputing something we didn’t assert—that they have reached a final conclusion. Warner did not contradict our reporting whatsoever.

That moment when a journalist debunks a conspiracy theorist. I wonder what Rachel Maddow will talk about once the investigation is over and Russiagate ends up being a nothingburger after all. I do have a puppet scandal for her to pursue in that scenario though. Maybe Israel and Saudi Arabia?
