I suspect we fail to fully comprehend the level of Trump's wrestling with the deep state, and that reverse psychology may be the end game, not only of the bombing - which reportedly did practically no harm to anyone - but of the diplomatic contest ongoing, not only in the UN.
Trump is contending with a mighty, and covert, enmeshed bureaucracy that is hell-bent on profitably prosecuting WWIII, and damning that force with faint support, so clearly seen through, may be a deliberate effort to disempower it.
That is certainly my hope, and the post-Obama ME indicates that, if this is indeed the case, it is working.
I'd point out that Trump appears to have a good relationship not only with Putin, but Xinping, according to reports of their confab in Vietnam. This may be the strongest evidence of such American internecine powerplays ongoing, that are affecting US foreign policy.

I appreciate what Trump is up against and can't really fault him for some of his worst decisions. If he continues as he's going he'll get us to a better place overall. But, it's going to be a very bumpy ride.

Speaking of internecine policy disputes, vis a vis the deep state, were you aware of the 'buzzing' of Langley by US Marines this last weekend? I reckon marines are tired of getting shot by weapons the CIA has put in the hands of ersatz Jihadis/well paid mercs.
