Why do we care about what kids think about politics?

Why do we care what kids on EITHER side say about politics...most of the time they are just parroting what an adult told them, and even when they are not, they are going to be wrong and uniformed on some facts.

For example, in 1980, during the hostage crisis, I advocated dropping nukes on the Iranians; I certainly didn't hear that from my parents or teachers LOL. I figgered the Japs stopped fucking around after we gave them a couple of doses, so the Iranians would too. I dint figger on what would happen AFTER, because I didn't know.

So kids should shut up about politics until after they've had a job. I really don't care what college kids think (college is crap); but I will listen to what 18 year-old soldiers in a combat zone say, because they have been there-seen that

So why do we keep hearing kids' opinions?

  • Propaganda

This was one of the most repulsive things I ever have seen in my life, and as a young man, I made it a point to watch brutality in order to desensitize myself. This kind of propaganda is what you expect out of a full-fledged police state run by a lunatic dumpling like the Norks' Lil Kim. Ugh.

That Gallup poll seems strange to me; I was not rebellious, but I certainly held views quite opposite to my own parent's middle-class technocrat values. A little deeper thought on the subject puts me in the mind that this must generally be true, for if not so, how would a society ever hold to the same culture over time?

Brainwashing Your Kids About Politics Is Not Healthy Or Cute

A valid point in this article is that there is such a thing as age appropriate politics. Hell, most adults don't even fully research their own political values and positions.

It’s unrealistic to think parents won’t pass along their values to their children.

It’s not that we don’t discuss politics in this house. But we tend to focus on procedure and precedent, not complex policy decisions or the cult of personality surrounding any particular politician.

Politics is like any other thing we teach our kids

People who don't pay attention to politics are more likely to get run over by government or a passel of do-gooing neighbors passing HOA bullshit.

So parents who understand that fact of life teach their kids about politics in just the same way they would teach them how to look both ways when crossing the street.

Unfortunately, politics is a vastly more complex process than crossing the street. So we as adults teach our kids the basics of politics first (according to our societal values), something like this:
America is great -> because we are a democracy -> everyone votes in a democracy -> there are two parties ->there are three branches of government -> we don't vote on every appointment in the three branches of government -> here is a little more detail on what each branch does->the political parties influence what each branch does outside your vote->there are influences on the political parties

...and of course our own personal biases get thrown into this process at each stage...
your vote doesn't matter for much -> better to join a political party -> better to join OUR political party!

We start out with the basics, then move up in detail and contradiction. They have to be taught the ideal before they can be taught about the things that interfere with the ideal. We oversimplify at first, and correct over time.

I think that is the right approach, but there is one thing we miss:
We do not teach logic or critical thinking skills as part of our educational process
Instead, we teach "critical theory", which itself is dogma

In conclusion

Personally, I don't give a damn what kids say, yeah it's funny when a kid rips a politician you don't like...it's like hearing a 5 year say dirty words, but they don't know what the hell they're saying.

Kids need to grow into politics with actual (not by our current "standards") education and experience.

We fail as a society when we don't include logic and critical thinking skills in training our kids, not just for politics, but in making all life decisions

"We fail as a society when we don't include logic and critical thinking skills in training our kids" Could not agree more. I would go and say we don't train them in virtually any skill for life in general.

just because you don't care about politics
doesn't mean that politics doesn't care about you.
one should consider politics in much the same manner that one would consider a rabid hyperactive wolverine....locked in the same room with you...

Exactly.

Study that rabid wolverine; look for ways to control it or to kill it. That thinking process needs to be taught to kids...we sure as hell shouldn't listen to ignorant kids' advice to make friends with it

homeschool
don't let your little chillin mix in public unsupervised (by you)
until they are ready to deal with the cold cruel world.
