Socialists believe that it is wealth that causes poverty. So they attack the wealthy and try to redistribute that wealth back to the poor. The result is that everyone becomes poorer.

Capitalists understand that poverty is the default state, and so they try and create wealth to pull themselves out of it. Everyone is then made wealthier.

In every single case, economies that focus on BUILDING wealth have less poverty than those economies that focus on redistributing the wealth of others..
