The problem is that not all of the markets with lower drug prices are poor. Many rich countries are also free riding off the US market.
A sensible policy would be for the US to demand prices no higher than those charged in other developed markets. US prices would likely decline a lot, and prices in those other developed markets would likely have to rise somewhat.
Anyway, I dropped by because I felt your post was fair enough, but a bit overrewarded so I placed a moderate downvote.
