‘Dictator’ Putin wins ‘fraud-tainted’ vote: Western media sticks to anti-Putin narrative

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

"Incumbent Russian leader Vladimir Putin is set to secure a resounding victory in the Russian presidential election, according to partial results made public by the electoral commission.
Vladimir Putin is now leading with over 76 percent of the vote, well above the simple majority needed to avoid a run-off."

As Putin was thanking his supporters for a landslide victory from the stage in Red Square, Western outlets rolled out long, pre-written news stories, liberally mixing reporting and opinion.

“The vote was tainted by widespread reports of ballot-box stuffing and forced voting, but the complaints will likely do little to undermine Putin,” wrote AP’s lead report. “The Russian leader’s popularity remains high despite his suppression of dissent and reproach from the West over Russia’s increasingly aggressive stance in world affairs and alleged interference in the 2016 U.S. election.”

The Washington Post called Sunday’s vote an “elaborate presidential-election-day spectacle” that sought “to legitimize the election,” which “critics described as a charade,” by boosting the turnout as “a lack of suspense or popular opposition candidates threatened to keep people home.”

New York Times called the election a “hollow exercise”.

CNN said that Putin “seeks tighter grip on power”.

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp Australia didn’t even bother with such nuances, calling Putin a straight-up “dictator”.

very nice 👌👌👌

Если враги беснуются и комментируют через губу, значит выборы доказали - выбор верный!

I will just copy-paste my comment from the other thread because it fits:
As a Russian, I have to say that Putin has no opponents now and all these "falsifications" are nonsense, with the lead that he has. My friend was a volunteer at one of the elective districts and she herself saw that Putin gained almost 3k votes when the second place had around 350.
He may not be perfect but as a president, he is lesser of all evils.

Putin is no "lesser of evils", he is a great leader and Russia is blessed to have him.

Unfortunately, I can't agree. I don't know where you are from but trust me. Putin might be strong and powerful and scary and stuff but it doesn't help He tries so hard to look tough to other countries but what happens in his country... meh.
He is good. He is not a blessing tho.

I can't agree with you. Putin is Russia's savior and a blessing to Russia and the world.
He does not try to look tough, he is a strong leader working hard for the good of the country.

Yes, well, I have a different point of view. I say it again, I am not against Putin, I do not support that scumbag Navalny. I just don't see VVP as the god or something.
Anyway, let's agree to disagree :)

Well, do spend some time and learn what Putin has accomplished, against all odds and hardships and realize that he is an extraordinary man, a blessing to Russia.
Disagreeing is ok.
