Brexit, What's Been Happening?
With literally a matter of weeks to go before the UK is supposed to leave the European Union, what is happening?
A couple of days ago, John Bercow selected an amendment that would allow for the house of Commons to have a vote on whether they should hold a second Brexit referendum for the British public.
This comes in light of MP brexiteers tricking and manipulating the general public into believing the EU was syphoning money out of our economy and dictating all our laws. British nationalists saw the vote as a way to "take back control", many racists believed that if they voted Brexit, the Muslims and polish people would be deported a day after.
In the end, the vote went 49% remain, 51% exit. A near 50/50 split based on misled public opinion and archaic views has changed the course of this nation forever. The chaos ensued, the prime minister resigned, the strength of the pound collapsed. But none of the people who voted leave understood this, they just wanted their 'sovereignty' back.
We are now years down the line and in the last week, we've seen a lot of high drama in the house of commons with the agreed leaving date (known as article 50) approaching very quickly. John Bercow selected an amendment that allowed MPs to vote on a second referendum, much to the dismay of many Brexiteers. Unfortunately, Labour asked their MPs to abstain from the vote meaning there was an overwhelming "no" for a second referendum.
What will happen next?
- A no deal Brexit, everyone loses
- A deal can be struck between May and the EU that doesn't damage our economy too badly but will likely still screw us over.
It's a fucking shambles and no mistake. The lies that were told cannot be emphasised enough. That's why I agree with a second referendum because it was so close.
Yes, a complete and utter shambles. The commons keep saying they're following the will of the British public despite the obvious deception by some influential brexit MPs. To vote against a second referendum is far less democratic than making such huge decisions on a tiny 1-3% majority.
To top it all off, 20% didn't even vote in the last referendum meaning the 51% leavers were actually not a majority!

I know, the Tories are pretending that they are respecting the will of the people because secretly and not so secretly they have always wanted to be our of Europe. And now it's a total mess!!
I say the commons because weirdly there are some tory remainers (John Bercow is a tory however selected the second referendum ammendment) and there are some Labour leavers as well.
I feel especially bad for you Scots though as the referendum came right after your independance referendum, and Scotland was overwhelmingly remain, but it looks like you might be getting dragged out of the EU with us 🤔

There is a lot of bitterness up here because one of the main arguments that was given for us to stay was that we wouldn't get to stay in Europe if we left the Union :0D
