Visiting Local Bitcoin Businesses
Last week, I visited with Maine Bitcoin, LLC --- a local business in Lewiston, ME that helps people make exchanges between federal reserve notes and Bitcoin.
Speaking with the owner, Jake, about the development and progress of his small business, I was glad to see Maine businesses are engaging in the growing crypto economy.

Unfortunately, Washington (through Internal Revenue Service) has already decided to tax cryptocurrencies through Notice 2014-21. Of course this Notice carries much less than the full weight of a Congress-enacted Internal Revenue Code Section, so there is still time to fix the situation. There is already one piece of legislation floating around to limit adverse impacts of minimal personal crypto transactions, but regardless the people need some action ASAP through concrete relief and more guidance (forks!?).
The IRS Notice is short and to the point and does not address many of the complexities in crypto currency transactions. But when the dollar amount of the crypto currency market capitalization keeps increasing every day more than $150 billion I just get nervous that the IRS will eventually come down on unprepared people with wrath of fury. That was the inspiration for me to come out to this platform and try to educate people about the (very) general tax considerations. I hope that you/your economics team might find some of my educational materials useful while you are continuing brainstorming ideas for preventing government over-regulation of crypto currency.

No problem! Also, one other thing, which is vitally important on Steemit, which no doubt you would have learned soon but it’s best you learn ASAP, is Voting Power.
If you go to www.SteemNow.com and type in your username, it will show you your Voting Power, which recharges about 20% daily.
What’s peculiar is that until you reach ~500 Steem Power, you can’t choose “how big” of an Upvote to give, and thus end up giving out a 100% Upvote each time, which uses up ~1.9-2% of your voting power.
This is why many people like to give out smaller votes, and when you reach ~500SP, you will be able to have an Upvote % Slider
Pretty cool stuff, and I figured I’d just let you know because it will take a couple days of no upvoting stuff for your voting power to recharge and then your Upvote will be the 1 cent minimum until you start stacking up Steem Power, which it seems like you’re doing a pretty good job of so far! 😄💯❤️

How are you planning to protect crypto?
Will you be looking to legitimize it somehow, to stop regulation, or do you have some other plan?
Personally, I think Bitcoin is doing fine without Washington DC involvement. As cryptocurrency becomes a bigger threat to the financial establishment, for the most part, I want to make sure the politicians leave us alone and don't disrupt the currency revolution that is taking place.
