Well confidence in Merkel isn't the Right choice of Words. The Problem in Germany is that there was no other viable candidate. Martin Schulz is not sympathetic enough and his party (dunno if it's the Right Word) doesnt differ much from Merkel.
Also her Party lost almost 10% in the election, which is much for a established Party in Germany. Sadly the programme of CDU /CSU doesnt respond to the needs and fears of the Population, especially in immigration politics and welfate
That's what it's all about in politics nowadays, choosing the least worst candidate
