Should America start moving towards socialism?

I'm not sure what's really going on here. It seems that the Democratic party is moving further and further left every single day.

Maxine Waters has been calling for violence against anyone who has an opposing view to her own.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Socialist who is about to win a Congressional seat in New York.

Cynthia Nixon, known for her roles in Sex and the City and well not much else, is a gubernatorial candidate in New York who is running on introducing socialist policies in New York.

These Dems would get a lot more votes if they weren't advocating for socialism. I mean, the only way to maintain socialism is through communism and I've heard plenty of horror stories from my parents about how they grew up to know that this is just a horrible idea.

Here is the simplest way you can explain the difference between "democratic socialism" and "socialism":
You and another person in your class are taking a test. You happened to study very hard and you were able to get an A. The other person didn't study at all and got an F. Under socialism, the teacher points a gun to your head and you both get a C. Under democratic socialism, you get to elect the teacher who points the gun at your head.
