“We are at war with Eurasia, we have always been at war with Eurasia” - Orwell

This phrase totally describes the history of the entire mankind. Wars were plenty in the past, and alliances were rapidly changing, and then it was totally forgotten that 2 countries who are bitter enemies today were dear friends not too long ago.

If we are war with somebody that automatically means that we have always been at war with them, and any memory of otherwise is automatically a thought-crime.

Take for instance the relationship between Britain and France, it’s probably the best one out there. I mean literally almost every 50 years they switched from ally to enemy in the middle ages. Sometimes their fought against Germany or the Holy Roman Empire together, other times they fought between themselves. And of course any previous alliance was quickly forgotten, both in the media as in public sentiment.

The other instance of this is the relationship between Britain and Germany, they fought a couple battles together against France, and then they became bitter enemies and then friends again after the world wars, and now again verbal hostility erupts after Brexit. It’s totally ridiculous.

A history book is nothing less than the perfect example of schizophrenia of humanity. Totally forgetting the past and anything contrary to the current narrative being pushed.

In the past we were at war with the Soviet Union, it looked like we were always been at war with them, I mean my parents and grandparents told me what it was like to live in the fear of nuclear annihilation in the 50-60’s and the constant fearmongering....

Of course they forgot how big friends they were, like the Brits with Russia during the Tsarist period against the “evil Turkish hordes”:

Of course totally forgetting that the Russians were the biggest enemies of the Brits allied with the Turkish not too long before that:

And of course the Russians hated the Turkish long before that:

And the Russians also hated the Brits:

And then the Brits loved the Russians initially but they quicky became enemies:

And the Russians and Brits were also allies in WW1:

And the Russians also hated the Brits in WW2 and WW1:

And then the Russians and Brits became the greatest allies in WW2:

And then they became the greatest enemies during the Cold War:

And then a period of peace in the 90’s and Crimea repeats again spawning new hostilities:

So it’s total Orwellian amnesia, switching from ally to enemy almost every 50 years and forgetting everything before that.

War is good for business and the newer generations are quick to forget the lessons of history, and that is if they oven bothered to read it in the first place.

I don't know how we get ourselves out of this trap!

But for what end? Not greed-But power.

Therefore I like the Idea about EU, however not as it appears at the moment. More as cultural and economic framework what gives the different concepts structure. Young people interchange and can learn from own experience that we are basically all not so different.
