The Media is Wrong Again. Surprise Surprise.
It was only 15 hours ago when I predicted that Democrats would lose their feeble little minds about a tariff on solar panels from China. I was partially wrong, it was USA Today and it wasn't about the environment (although I'm sure that is coming) but it was about the loss of American jobs as people will be less likely to but cheap foreign solar panels so they won't need to get them installed.
As a free trade proponent, there are easy arguments to be made against tariffs, but this one isn't a good one. Playing Devil's Advocate here, the point of the tariff from Trump's POV is that it will level the playing field and make the production of solar panels here in the good ol' U.S. of A. much more feasible. You see, the left has no problem taxing the rich (or the middle class as they see them as rich as well) but god forbid they tax a foreign country that manipulates their currency so they can have an edge over American companies.
I guarantee this argument will backfire on them. They all might be sitting their high castles saying this is terrible, but to the American worker in the middle of Kansas, this is Trump giving China the middle finger and whether or not it helps them personally, they appreciate it. Back in the day it would have been the Republicans shouting against a tariff and the Democrats standing up for the American worker. Those days are past.
