Are Tariffs a Good Thing??
So Trump just called for a 30% tariff on Solar Panels imported from China. Here are my thoughts on this move:
- Tariffs limit free trade. I fancy myself a free-trader and on the surface I'm not a fan.
- China manipulates their currency and has dirt cheap labor which makes them able to produce these products so cheap that it hard for the US to compete. An added 30% will certainly help US business in this market and for that I'm certain that Elon Musk is happy.
- Democrats will be on the news in the next hour or two saying the President hates the environment and this proposal will have Miami under water by the Fourth of July.
- Sean Hannity will think this is a brilliant move.
