Front page newspaper review
Feb 10, 2019 (North Myrtle Beach SC) -- For many years, I've appreciated being able to see the many hundreds of daily front pages posted on a typical day at newseum.org. Lately, I look at the ones from my home state first, and then check a few from elsewhere. Yesterday, after the South Carolina papers, I went to the DC section. My wife and I raised our children there in the DC area, and many a morning I enjoyed comparing the front pages of the Times and Post side-by-side. One of the papers yesterday was a "gay" paper that featured a photo of Sen. Lindsey Graham on the front page, with the headline being "Top 50 eligible gays in DC; Sen. Graham barely misses the cut" or some such. The headline doesn't actually say that Sen. Graham is a pervert. Then I went to the New York section, and checked out the NYC front pages. The New York Post front page was dominated by the headline BEZOS EXPOSES PECKER. A fellow named Mr. Pecker is CEO of National Enquirer, and Bezos has "exposed" Pecker's alleged attempts to blackmail Bezos. These stories remind me of Thomas Jefferson's comment that people who read the newspapers may actually end up being less well-informed than those who never read the newspapers.
