Political Game Theory and the Clinton Foundation

in #politics6 years ago

The Republicans are abuzz with the testimony of whistle-blowers against the Clinton Foundation before Congress.

I found a great write up of some of it here:

https://saraacarter.com/financial-bounty-hunters-testify-clinton-foundation-operated-as-foreign-agent/

And they are basically saying everything that the Clinton Foundation has been accused of over the last several years is true:

  • It's not a non-profit
  • It works on behalf of shady foreigners trying to influence US politics
  • The Clintons have been using it like a personal piggy bank
  • Basically a giant tax fraud

To anyone who has been paying attention, none of this comes as any surprise.

The question becomes, "What's next?"

For the next 37 days the Republicans control the House and Senate. After that, the House switches to majority Democrat.

Will they launch criminal investigations? Will a former president and presidential-hopeful be prosecuted for their crimes?

Doubtful.

From the game theory perspective, you have to figure that if they do that the Dems will do the same to Trump as soon as they get a chance.

So the Nash Equilibrium favors both sides doing nothing to prevent retaliation from the other side.

That won't stop the war of words from escalating. But in terms of actual consequences, I don't expect much.
