Crisis in Venezuela, political analysis. 2015-2017

in #politics7 years ago

The crisis that crosses Venezuela in 2017 is very complex. It can be difficult for the international community to understand the magnitude of the problem. The media often show the two to the world. On the side of the version of the Venezuelan government in which the crisis is almost nonexistent, they are victims and their opponents are terrorists. Then we have the version of each person who is against the government of Nicolas Maduro. In this version it is affirmed that there is a serious crisis in the country, that the Venezuelan people are repressed and that in Venezuela is lived under a dictatorship. So which of the two versions is true?

It is important to understand how the crisis of 2017 began in Venezuela. Many receive what the crisis began in 98 with the arrival of Hugo Chavez to power, others who say that the crisis from the 60s or maybe much later. Although I can only be true, I will simply write about the specific actions that brought about the real political crisis. The events that led to Venezuela to the current situation have happened in recent years. You may ask: What happened in recent years to cause this effect? It's simple, an imbalance of power.

In December of 2015 materializes the change of power in Venezuela. In the elections that take place on December 6, 2015, the opposition gains the qualified majority of the National Assembly (AN). That is, the opposition controls 75% of the AN. With this result it becomes real and evident the displeasure that exists by the government of Nicolas Maduro. The change of power leaves the Chavista regime in a position it had not experienced in its last 16 years in power. They ran out of popular support. The reaction of the Maduro government to this result was immediate, in the last month of operation of the AN Chavista is committed the first act that would lead us to the current crisis of 2017 and the first major break of the Venezuelan constitution. The AN chavista (as the last act before its departure in January 2016) illegally chooses the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ). These elections were vitiated but were overlooked at the time.

In January 2016 the new AN with opposition majority is sworn in. Sadly, a few days before the inauguration of the new AN, another attack takes place. This time the elections in the Amazon state are challenged. No matter that the National Electoral Council (CNE) recognized the election; the illegal TSJ dictates a measure so that the three elected candidates of the Amazon state can not assume the position. The illegal TSJ requests that the elections be repeated (These elections for the 24/6/17 are not yet held). Due to this attack on the new AN there is friction between the powers of the Venezuelan state.

During the first months in office, the AN Approves various laws. Some aimed at resolving the country's economic and social crisis. But regardless of the character of the laws, the president decides not to sign them, which avoids their final approval. The executive power asks the TSJ to declare unconstitutional the laws of approving the AN and thus leave the legislative power without functions.

The Venezuelan opposition decides to carry out a revocatory process in 2016 (removal of the president through popular vote) due to constant attacks on the AN, lack of food and medicine in the country. The process, unfortunately, is blocked by the electoral body itself (CNE). The CNE decides to create a series of obstacles that are not contemplated in the law to stop the recall. The final result is the definitive blocking of the recall, violating once again the constitution. The former is not the only serious violation of the constitution by the CNE. In December 2016, governor elections in Venezuela were to be held, elections that the CNE decided not to carry out due to the "economic crisis" although high government officials publicly admitted that elections would not take place until their popular support returned and they could win the elections.

Legacy in 2017 the Venezuelan opposition has tried to resolve the political crisis by all legal and constitutional channels. On the other hand the government of Nicolas Maduro has stopped and stopped each one of these ways. Elections are no longer an option for the chavismo that would easily lose to reach the polls in any type of election. Without popular support, the Venezuelan government maintains power through the TSJ, the CNE and the army. Even so it needs the AN to be able to have total control, reason why it decides to carry out the act that would cause the more than 80 days of present protests.

The TSJ decides to assume all the functions of the AN. The reaction of Venezuelan citizens is immediate and rejection. With this last illegal and unconstitutional act, the little democracy left in Venezuela is totally lost. Now the government of Nicolas Maduro is recognized as a full dictatorship that does not allow elections and controls all the powers of the state.

I hope that with this post it is clear who closed all the ways to solve the crisis in Venezuela. Who originated the current protests and who is responsible for the deaths that my country is suffering today. I look forward to your support to bring this reality to the whole world.

Those people are starving

you said it Yoshi

Corruption is destroying Venezuela. The first to suffer is always the people, but only the people can give back to this!

Thanks for sharing this. I support a government putting the needs of it's poorest and most needy citizens first, which I think is the idea that brought Chavez to power. Not to mention the US government and other powerful interests continually trying to milk the resources of smaller countries around the globe for power and profit making resistance seem necessary. But I am quite ignorant of the everyday issues in the ground there so, though it's still of course pretty vague to me, I'm glad to get a little further insight. Thanks for taking the time to share it. Following you.
