Net Neutrality is officially dead from today

in #politics6 years ago

This ending of net neutrality - and the way the FCC handled the entire issue - is probably the worst anti-citizen / anti-consumer action by our government in decades.

Internet service providers (as well as software manufacturers) and companies that make 'getting around the web' possible have long had the ability to censor internet content. So there is some negative article about some person or company? Just censor it from view. It happens regularly. It wasn't that long ago (1980's) that nearly a hundred different companies comprised where most of the news came from and what people read.
Now there are 6 or less and they control pretty much all the news. And they suddenly have the ability to not only control the narrative of what people hear and read but also make sure anything critical is kept from view.
Consumers, we have the power here if we choose to use it.
If people en masse dump their ISPs in favor of smaller companies that guarantee net neutrality, the big guys, who are the only ones who will benefit from the repeal of net neutrality, will find themselves without a customer base and will have to change what they're doing.
In the meantime, we have to hope that the courts overturn this wrong-headed repeal. #Boycott
