RE: School shootings - is it just a U.S. problem? can they be prevented?

in #politics7 years ago

"Most school shootings were carried out by a single person. If they know going in they are outnumbered, do you think this may deter some people knowing that there is a good chance they won't make it out alive? Yes it will. Not everyone, because some of them actually have a death wish. And for those evil people, their lives should end before they can reload."

Schools, as they are currently organized, are what we call "soft targets." Arming, or even allowing for the optional arming of school staff, has many more potential positive effects than negative ones. Both of which need to be part of the conversation.

Potential negative effects: negligent discharge, improper handling, increased expenses, unnecessary escalation of force with students.

Potential positive effects: Prevent an attack via deterrence, reduce the number of students murdered, teaching "not a victim" mindset.

Did you end up calling your state reps and senators?
