Theresa May's Davos Speech Stinks of Socialism and Political Globalism
She talks about promoting free trade and free markets, but if you take away the sugar coating, you are left with a bitter pill of increased government intervention. Here are a few of the worrying things she said:
10:39 - "I believe strongly in a rules-based global order"
14:23 - "It means stepping up to a new active role that backs businesses and ensures more people in all corners of the country share in the benefits of its success"
19:10 - "We have to be practical and proactive. In other words we have to step up and take control to ensure that free trade and globalisation work for everyone"
19:37 - "If you're someone that is just managing, just getting by, you don't need a government to get out of the way, you need an active government that will step up and champion the things that matter to you"
Then later she also talks about the "shared society" (20:10) and the "cult of individualism" (21:14). Many of the things she has said are socialist and politically globalist. UKIP has turned to the left, and the Conservative Party has turned to the left. The entire political landscape in the UK is looking particularly leftist at the moment.
These are just words though. We can only wait and see what actually happens in policy and law.
It's scary whenever policymakers bash the "cult of individualism" ..like how Hillary would mock libertarians. It's sick that individual life is so readily trampled. Good ideas don't require forceful implementation.
The key thing to look out for in these discussions is whether the person is advocating free markets or business. We don't need pro-business policies, prosperity comes from pro market policies that promote open competition with few artificial barriers to entry, if any. Pro business policy tends to be protectionist and stifle new entrants in favor of politically connected incumbents.
