welfare reform ( the conservatives "solution" )

in #politics10 years ago (edited)

The conservative government say they have reduced unemployment and they show figures to back up there claims , they give reasons as to why this is , all of course in favor of them doing a spiffing job.

Then there are the other reasons why in my very humble opinion , yes sir no sir three bags full sir.

1. Doctoring of the true unemployment figures ( standard practice )

2. Many gave up claiming and back living with parents again

3. Many made homeless via sanction of welfare payments.

4. Many took their own lives after welfare sanctions or during pressure from the DWP.

5. Many , if they had money aside will use that up before claiming anything.

6. Sanctions in general , daily , weekly , monthly , yearly sanctions , the tick box system governed by the "decision maker" who can switch you off like a light bulb.

7. The rush for the door with many taking low pay ( "don,t call us we,ll call you type jobs" ) zero hours even though those people knew they would still be struggling and be possibly worse off .

I,m sure there are other reasons not listed here but all in all the conservatives way to reduce the unemployment figures was to get nasty and when i say nasty i mean this type of system , make it very difficult for people in any way possible , make them jump through hoops, trick them, pressure them mentally , intimidate them , mess them around , sanction them , make them jump further until they fall over ( the new universal credit monthly payment system ) Send them to "work programme" providers" to constantly question and force them to comply with DWP directives.

Then there,s  the work placements which force people to work for some entity , could be anything or anyone , in return you may keep your welfare benefits but all of the above pressure remains in place upon you .

If you are late or ill it is likely you will be sanctioned , if you refuse to comply and don,t go to your work programme placement your sanction could be 7 months or more meaning your money is halted , you get zero and at no point will you get that back , its gone.

The consequences of the above are devastating destructive cruelty for anyone that happens to fall into the well cloaked trap called welfare reform.

I remember an old saying  "your only ever one pay cheque away from poverty " and with conservative government welfare reform, they use that threat every day combined with psychological ploys pushing people towards a metaphorical cliff edge while all the time telling them not to worry as its their way of offering "support"

Boycott Workfare disrupts Mark Hoban and Lord Freud's presentation at Policy Exchange.

During 'Extending Labour Market Interventions to In-Work Claimants' they set out the government's plans for the next round of welfare reforms.

'In-work conditionality' is the one they're excited about. In the future, if you're claiming anything through Universal Credit -- whether you're unemployed, or working part time, or just working less than the DWP thinks you ought to be -- you will have to go to the Job Centre to account for your actions. If they don't think you're doing enough, workfare and sanctions are just down the line.

Workfare is forced unpaid labour with no workplace rights attached. It replaces paid work, undermines wages and conditions, and artificially lowers unemployment levels. People who are sanctioned can lose all benefits for up to three years. When sanctioned, people go short of food, go into debt, and lose their housing.
