Make our planet great again!

Trump's attack on the Paris Climate Treaty has led to heavy reaction from people and leader all over the world.

As far as I know the only ones agreeing with Trump are, ironically, some Iranian Ayatollahs. The rest of the world is headbanging over Trump's frosty treatment of the hotly needed treaty.

Political leaders are trying their best to prevent the damage, and France new president Macron probably nailed it when he said: Make this planet great again!

We all share the same responsibility: make our planet great again. https://t.co/IIWmLEtmxj

Disclaimer: I am just a bot trying to be helpful.

I saw this yesterday... very instructive.

.... and this is for a few laughs

Yes, if I remember right the first one is several years old, as is the debunking of it.

There is a debunking of the first video? Can you share the link please? I start to read about it only few months ago... Im kind of new to all this.

Sorry, as I wrote it is some time ago... maybe it was linked on BOINGBOING?
Anyway I can give you only a German source
http://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/natur/klimaskeptiker-ivar-giaever-nobelpreistraeger-auf-abwegen-a-1041706.html
Where he is quoted as having "is not interested in climate change" and only "googled for half a day" on that.

But Carlin is really funny and have some true in what he says... putting the science apart of course.

I really like his sense of humor.

One thing we can do is take energy production incentives into our own hands, government policies usually change every 4-5 years and this is harmful to industries like renewables that have return on investment cycles in the decade range. We have created SolarCoin.org for this exact purpose, its like Bitcoin except it is issued free of charge to anyone generating solar PV at a rate of 1 SolarCoin for 1 MWh of energy generated. It is approved by IRENA (International REnewable Energy Agency) and has been presented to the EU Parliament and has interest from other global organizations. Unlike Bitcoin, SolarCoin can run on Raspberry Pi or other low power hardware, making it very efficient and it creates more energy than it uses. I am also part of the ElectriCChain.org project where we aim to network solar panels together via block-chain and build a free and open database for climate science; solar panels can be used as sky watchers to understand cloud cover, and with a few basic additional instruments can gather weather data.

We aim to incentivise solar PV without government, come and join us.

Way cool! (I just fumbled another bad pun... unintended)

wait, you are in favor of the global warming agreements?

I am not sure how I should interpret this. I strongly believe we should not destroy the basis of human life on this planet by saying the temperature does not rise when we don't look at the thermometer.

Im ofc not in favor of demolishing nature without good reasons. But global warming is a hoax

they predict most of the drastic change according to data of 2000 to 2016. I dont trust statistics I didnt fake myself.

In the past temperature changes tend to happen rather rapidly. We humans of all creatures should be fine, we survived a lot of "bottlenecks" in our early history.

Yes, of course, future trends are predictions.
But I think that an all-time hottest year 2014, followed by an all-time hottest 2015 followed by an all-time hottest 2016 looks like the predictions are in the right way.

well since we are still living in an ice age, hence the polar ice, I dont mind a few degrees of rising temp. It's sad for Holland tho.

That is not the definition of ice age. Anyway, every big temperature change is going to seriously affect billions of people negative, and which age we are in does not matter for that.

It might also have positive effects. Beaches in Düsseldorf. Humankind lived through very rough climate changes with barely any tech. I doubt strongly that "that billions will suffer from rising sea levels.

More then 1 billion people are living at the cost so that alone is at minimum very costly.

But more important are the changes in rain, temperatures etc.

And yes, humankind lived through a 2 degree cooling. But not all humans. Definitely not the ones where I live, you can see a nice "Gletschergarten" here, where the ice and the stones and the ice made some very interesting scratches in the ground.
That was at 2 degrees change. I don't want to image how it looks here after 4 degrees change.

have to go to the doc. Ill be back in about 1h, talk to you later, comrade

Everyone should step out.

Water vapour contributes more to climate change then CO2 so maybe now you can see what a farce it is.

Unsurprisingly, the real climate is far more complicated then my basic math in the answer. Different absorption and heights plays a big role, too! But this one has surprised me:

Water vapour will play a huge role in the centuries to come, though. Climate models, backed by satellite measurements, suggest that the amount of water vapour in the upper troposphere (about 5 to 10 kilometres up) will double by the end of this century as temperatures rise.

https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11652-climate-myths-co2-isnt-the-most-important-greenhouse-gas/

Well I feel I can't trust much mainstream science anymore. I have become very, very sceptical and it's really really sad. Might sound funny but it's not meant that way.

Skepticism plays an important role in science. It is sad when trusted public sources betray the public. and confusing. At least we can openly talk about it...

No.

Water vapor is the most important factor for the greenhouse effect, followed by CO2.

But climate change is, as the name says, the change in temperature.

So lets say (just throwing random numbers for easiness) 100° of the earth's temperature are based on Water vapor.
5° are based on CO2.

Water vapor concentration does not change (well, it does with rising temperature, but lets ignore).

But CO2 concentration did change. It has increased by 50%+ in the last 100 years.
Meaning, based on our random numbers, human-made CO2 would increase temperature of the earth by 2,5° while Water Vapor still being the biggest greenhouse gas.

@lennstar your points are very interesting and informative. Have you heard or read anything about the warming coming from beneath the ice? I'd be curious what your input on that is...even if it's bs claims I like to get a picture of perspectives on why certain claims are bs. The only naive perspective (in my opinion) is that this topic doesn't affect us all.

warming coming from beneath the ice

??? I have no idea what that is about (assuming its not about volcanic etc. activities like the hot springs in Iceland). Sounds like a good book title though.

Right!? That's why I'm trying to get more information. Please let me know if you come across anything substantial about this, and I'll do the same.

Whatever anyone's thoughts on global warming or what's going on at the south pole (check my post if you want to join the dialogue ) is separate from pulling out of the paris accord and what that means. It's worth looking into the bigger picture of this treat. I'm an environmentalist that sees this treaty as more of a ruse than anything to substantially help the planet in the long run. But like I said, worth checking out the total implications of the treaty and avoiding the pro or anti earth propaganda divide and debate hype, to get a clearer picture.
