Hey Wall Fans: Why do you think you even have the right to build one?

As of writing this, the US government is still shut down, with the president advising the cash-less government workers to buy food on credit.

And all that because of a US wall, promised to be build between the US and Mexican border with Mexican money.

But while it’s funny that there were people who really believed Trump that Mexico would pay for an expensive US building, that is not even the most interesting point. For me that is a more basic question, that I want to ask all pro-wallers: Why do you think you even have a right to build such a wall (Well, fence to be correct)?

Not only in the “land of the free” there is basic principle of freedom: You can do what you want as long as you don’t infringe on other’s rights.
That also means that you can move to wherever you want, as long as you don’t infringe on other’s rights. In this case of e.g. the right to prevent others from entering your land, as part of property rights.

Putting aside that this right is in no way absolute or universal, this argument does not work in the case of the US.
Because you cannot have rights on something you stole, and as long as you aren’t, let’s say 50%+ a native American, you (wall fan) are just the descendant of immigrants that robbed land. (That also destroys the “We were here first” argument btw.) If you take property rights seriously, then you don’t have them for the US soil.

And if you are a native American?
Then, if you adhere to the traditional native’s view of rights, you also don’t have a legal nor moral right to try to prevent anyone entering “your” land. You cannot own nature, after all, so there is no “your” land.

The only point that really works is the “because we can”. Because you have the power of force (and the strongest military in the world).

But that would logically mean that, if the “illegal immigrants” trying to cross the border do so with blazing guns and shoot down the border guards and settle down inside the US, they have exactly the same right do that as you. Which you (wall fan) will certainly not agree with.

Which means you are left with no argument that you even have the right to build that wall, or did I overlook one?
