Mutti Merkel and the bikini

Germans are heading to the polls on Sunday and everybody agrees it's going to be an easy win for Chancellor Angela Merkel. The most interesting part of the elections is that, for the first time since WWII, the far-right is going to be represented in the new Parliament (Bundestag).
The far-right AfD (Alternative fur Deutschland) is expected to become the third political party, with around 10%, after campaigning on a anti-immigrant platform. The rising anti-Muslim feeling in Germany is easy to understand as the country has been struggling with growing numbers of immigrants, following Mrs. Merkel's controversial decision to open Germany's borders in 2015.

“Burqas? We like bikinis.”

This is just one of AfD's posters plastering Berlin's streets and it pretty much explains what many Germans fear, the islamization of their country. Angela Merkel has assured her voters that Germany can manage to integrate the Muslim immigrants, but there are growing fears these refugees don't care much about integration and would much rather preserve their way of life and impose it on their host nation. Not to mention the terrorist attacks and the violence (including rape) commited by Muslim immigrants.

Unholy alliance

The far-right AfD has received a lot of financial support from the United States, including from Jewish Americans. Among them, millionaire heiress to the Sears Roebuck fortune, Nina Rosenwald. An ardent Zionist and supporter of the 'Greater Israel' plans, Rosenwald channeled substantial sums of money to the AfD through her Gatestone Institue which regularly publishes inflammatory anti-Muslim posts on its website. While I've never understood the alliance between Jews and Conservative Christians, the idea that a Jew would actively support a German far-right political organization is beyond my comprehension. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for!

The missing Russia link

Since we're talking about meddling with other country's elections, the Russian propaganda machine has had a blast these past few weeks pointing out that there were no Russians attempts to influence the German poll. No Russian link! While there's not much love lost between Putin and Merkel, they have a workable relation. Among other reasons, Merkel knows where her next meal is coming from. At least her next cooked meal! So far, Germany depends on Russian oil and there's nothing Merkel can do about it for the time being. The woman Germans sometimes refer to as Mutti (Mother) needs to take care of her people.
If the polls are correct, Merkel's Christian-Democrats (CDU/CSU) will win the elections and renew the Greater Coalition with the Social-Democrats (SPD), with the AfD becoming the main opposition party.

Unfortunately, The Pirate Party will not get elected to the Bundestag. Inspired by the famous torrents site The Pirate Bay (like other parties in Northern Europe), I think this is the only party that can truly say it has the ordinary citizen's interest at heart.
