Today's Weed News for May 22nd 2018 #LEGISLATORS

Today's weed news is all about those who are supposed to represent the will of the people in Washington, aka legislators or lawmakers.

Despite the fact that most people support cannabis legalization, a new report by Date of Progress suggests that lawakers across the country are ignoring the will of their constituents.

The above-mentioned report was based on a study where researchers examined the voting records of House Democrats. They then compared the voting data with polling numbers from around the country on various issues. One of those issues being cannabis legalization.

Even though polls show that 72% of Democratic voters are for legalizing cannabis, only 26% of House Democrats were officially for it.

Meaning that the Democratic legislators are simply ignoring their constituents.

Although this particular study did not focus on Republican or Independent legislators, support for legal cannabis is over 60% among Republican and close to 75% among Independent voters. Support in the House is still well below 50% among both groups of lawmakers.

This illustrates a greater problem within our political system. It shows that our representatives are simply refusing to represent us if it is not convenient for them, or if it goes against their own opinions.

The only thing we the people can do about it is to vote these people out of office.

So before you vote for your next representative or senator take a look at their past voting record and compare it to what it is they are promising to do when elected. You might be in for an ugly surprise.
