RE: Tulsi Gabbard is a Savage

Josh, I know they call it Rewards on Steemit. However, it either is or should be a payment mechanism. Specifically, I mean, when a person upvotes, they are basically paying money, I mean cryptocurrencies that is pending from the rewards pool. Of course, we can upvote and downvote. We can flag. We can all do what we want. I'm not saying you can't. I don't downvote because I see the upvoting system as a free market system or at least a reverse auctioning system. Disagreeing with rewards would be like disagreeing on the price of a car that you are not going to buy in the first place. I guess you can do that. But if a bunch people and bots upvoted it, then it deserves the rewards, perhaps. That is supply and demand. That might be how the free market works at least in theory.

That's not true at all, and I disagree with your anecdotes. The reward pool is a commons, and voting DOES NOT represent a direct monetary payment. You should read the white paper. I actually just made a blog about the economics of the reward pool.

Thank you for being an active participant in reason!

I'm just trying to be consistent, despite the fact I respect Aggroed a lot and am a big Splinterlands junkie!

Yes that's fine... It's not his fault people rely on blindly auto voting.

I am not a gamer and I'm woefully underwhelmed with the lack of development on steem engine so the man gets no pass from me..

I'm ambivalent about tribes and steem engine in general, though DEC is a novel idea with respect to splinterlands.

Totally agree, just because I dont game I'm not about to deny that it's an appealing and thus far successful implementation on the blockchain..

I wish all the success in the world to that venture as symbiosis is favourable.. I'm just a tad salty seeing msp auto vote his account as I find that justification rather hilarious that their curation and building a witness up is minnow support.. I just detest sooo much of what I see at the top that I can't take this place seriously. And of course my musings usually end up getting me muted at worst, or ignored at best despite the fact I'm only offering my painfully logical perspectives.

I didn't say it was, I said that either it is or should be that way. I made an exception clause to wiggle out of that one as I usually do. I am trying to focus on how things should be. Anything that maximizes free markets and private property rights is what I seek after, at least in theory to some extent, generally speaking, perhaps.

Thanks for the clarification. For that, it seems you are implying there should be a direct correlation between voting power and reward. In other words, your vote represents an actual percentage of the reward pool, which you "own" and if not used gets lost. Is this correct?

Alternatives:

What would be an alternative to that? I know some people don't like this because they don't like how much power the sharks and whales can have similar to how people don't like Trump and really rich people in general.

Equality

So, a blockchain could attempt to keep everybody equal, well at least in theory. I guess it depends on the blockchain, on the specifics, the goals of the websites, of the networks.

Long-Term Investment

For Steemit, I prefer anything that encourages people to invest more into Steem. But if you don't get more voting power, voting weight, when you keep more in the Steem Power (SP), in your Steem Wallet, then there may be less sway. I'm not saying it is impossible to keep people interested.

Ghetto Social Networks

People are interested in Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc, for example, even without a reward pool. I am not saying that there has to be correlation between a vote and the rewards pool.

Any Correlation?

But then again, are you saying there should be zero correlation? Like, no correlation at all, even partly, even indirectly, even to a degree?

Purpose Behind REP?

Should we have REP? I say that as long as we have REP, we should also be able to grow in our voting power, that is as our REP grows. Well, I guess REP could be kept separate from voting power. Perhaps, we need another fork.

Competition

But if Steem is going in the wrong direction, perhaps people should try Weku or other Steem alternatives. I say, may the best blockchain network win. I love the competition.

The problem with that is, the pool is fixed. The inflation would continuously shrink your individual share of it. Under the current regime there is competition for this fixed resource, which is absolutely the way it should be. What you suggest would dilute it down to nothing. That's what enforced 'equality' does, it makes everyone equally poor.

Publish0x uses more of the fixed tipping model you are describing, but the reward pool is provided by projects and advertisers.

I am against equality.

Also, I said potential or pending rewards as opposed to direct monetary payment. On top of that, cryptocurrency is not fiat. So, of course, Steem, SP, and SBD, are not dollars. It's possible that I didn't include the word potential. But I did write pending which may or may not be possible. Therefore, it can be theoretical until payout in 7 days.
