Our technology is creating a new class of useless humans. Harari in his books Sapiens & Homo Deus describes this in detail. As automation eliminates more & more human workers it would be better to have all workers work 3 days a week rather than 5 & pay them the same wage rather than have all the profits from automation go to the 1%. The Oligarchs have figured out they really don't need you.
As with all things in the manifested world, it's relative to each person's perspective. My view is that that each human being has a unique talent or gift to share with the world which in turn shows that statement to be completely false.
Another perspective based on economics/GDP/other such nonsense (Hahaha, my opinion) would agree and say that you are correct that there will be more and more people who are unable to make a contribution and will therefore be useless (to the system).
