The limits of democracy

Democracy is a fairly good system for governing a homogeneous group of people with shared values and ideals. It is not a reasonable system for sharing power between two or more groups which totally hate each other and have nothing in common at all. At that point, all you have left is a contest to see who can do the better job of gaming the system. We are very close to that situation now. If the Democrat Party cannot be destroyed and gotten rid of within the next 2 to 5 years, we may come to a situation at which splitting the country up in a manner similar to the split between India and Pakistan would be the only halfway reasonable option.

We also need runoff or instant runoff elections for all public offices. Nobody should ever fear to vote his first choice, at least on a first ballot, and nobody should ever hold a public office with less than fifty percent of the vote. That would in fact allow some third party to rise up and supplant a party like the dems which has gone rogue.
