Issues and voting

in #politics2 years ago (edited)

Big election today...

There might actually be people attempting to analyze issues and devise a general voting scheme based on issues. My recommendation for those people would be to develop an understanding of the difference between real and phony issues. There may not be any kind of a perfect definition of a phony issue , but examples are not in short supply. A phony issue to my thinking is one that our political system has no power to resolve, that is, an issue which generates only Heat regardless of how much time people might spend analyzing or debating it.

The most extreme example (in theory) would be the old Budweiser Light commercial (Tastes great/Less filling); our system could obviously never resolve that one. A more familiar example which has been messing up our political system for half a century now is abortion:

Our political system will never resolve that one either.

A few real issues ( which I would tend to consider when determining how to vote):

  • Will my family have enough food this winter? Is our food infrastructure under some kind of attack ( have 70 some major food processing and distribution sites blown up or burned down inexplicably within the last year? Has our president ordered railroads not to transport chemical fertilizers just as spring planting season began? etc. etc.)
  • Has our president given Germany and other European nations cause ( Nordstream) to want to declare war on us?
  • Is the United States two weeks away from running out of diesel fuel?
  • Has our government made a habit of siding with Nazis against Christians in the recent past? Do too many of our officials seem to believe that Ukraine matters, but that we don't?
  • Is the Western World being deliberately deinidustrialized, either for the glory of "Gaia" or in some sort of a perverse scheme to maximize corporate profits at the expense of American workers?
  • Are our politicians attempting to reinvent racism ( rather than simply eliminating it)?
  • Are real Energy Technologies ( thorium , cold fusion , plasma Focus Fusion , low-sulfur coal etc.) being killed off/ shut-down in favor of windmills and other things which should have ended with the Middle Ages? Would we have suffered from the polar vortex if we had been building reactors rather than windmills?
  • Has our government been taken over by out-of-control agencies and/or an out of control medical Industrial Complex?
