I always figured there were two things democrats and leftists needed to hear about, i.e. that John Rockefeller saved the whales (kerosene) and that Rachel Carson was responsible for more human death and suffering than Adolf Hitler and Genghis Khan combined. The thing about Streep and Dino deLaurentis appears to be another item in that same sort of category.
