Trump vs. Chavez

in #politics7 years ago

I am a Venezuelan living in the US. The reason I am here is because Chavez' ultra- left socialism (fancy word for communism) completely destroyed the Venezuelan economy and currency. If you want to look at modern day hyper inflationary scenarios look no further than what has gone on in Venezuela. I mean 20% monthly inflation; daaaaaaamn! Imagine waking up one day with your Venezuelan bolivares thinking that you could buy a cell phone only to find out that same amount now buys you a cell phone case. This is not an exaggeration.

When Chavez got into power he had the overwhelming majority of the population behind him, perhaps 70%. With this amount of support he was able to change the constitution to remain in power until 2021. He croaked around 2010-2011 and his successor was placed in power to Venezuela's continuing demise.

Even though Chavez and Trump are from opposite political sides of the spectrum (Far left vs Far right), they have extremely similar traits. Both are power driven, highly narcissistic, tyrannical and live in alternative realities.

Trump does not bathe in the same support Chavez did and while the democratic system here in the US has become fragile; I do not see Trump with the ability of changing the constitution or being re-elected for a 2nd term the way things are going.

Thanks for hearing out my 2 cents!

Great to hear your perspective. I made a similar observation during my history class many years back.

At the extreme ends of the political spectrum, both ideaologies are very similar in practical terms. Fascism and communism.
