RE: The Corrosive Effects Of Identity Politics

in #politics6 years ago

As imperfect as democracy is it still has merit and historically has lifted more people out of poverty than any system that has come before it.
Well I think this is not so, I live in Honduras, 50 years ago I used to hear we were the second poorest country in Latin America (and second only because arbitrarily Haiti was put as part of Latin America), today after nearly 40 years of "Democracy" we still hold that position, in fact the percentage of poor people in the country has gone up both in numbers and as a percentage. This despite the fact that over 1 million Hondurans now live, work and send money home, from other countries. Compare this to China where democracy is not even thought to exist and yet has actually lifted over half of their population to being middle class.

Sort:

So they say with rather convincing factual accounts; Democracy is the precursor to Socialism, which in turn is the precursor to Communism/Fascism, which we are all (or at least should be) acutely aware is a general pathway that should be avoided at all costs due to its inevitable catastrophic ends. I think that the population at large simply doesn’t get this basic truth, nor are they able to connect the simple historic dots that have gotten us to where we are today as a global civilization – if you want to even call it that…
