Trump and KJU summit
The summit between the DPRK and The United States of America is undergoing at the moment and this is just the coverage of the first meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.
Trump left his Hotel first and got to the summit location first, with KJU following closely after. After the press shot of them shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries they go upstairs to the meeting room, with the press scrambling up the stairs after them. The initial press briefings go as follows:
Trump: "I am confident that there talks will be a tremendous success and we will have a tremendous relationship, i have no doubt"
KJU: "It has not been easy to get here, the old prejudices and practices have acted as obstacles but we have overcome them and we are here today."
They shook hands and the press were told to leave, having to be told about 3-5 times to do so by both administrations organisers.
According to News sources around the world, Kim Jong Un is to be offered "unique" security guarantee's during the summit in return for de-nuclearisation. Those security guarantee's haven't been outlined yet but it is said that Trump is go "go further" than the past deal in 2005 where Bush pledged that the United States would not attack North Korea with Nuclear or Conventional weapons.
Mike Pompeo, the secretary of state said:
“We are prepared to take actions that will provide them sufficient certainty that they can be comfortable that de-nuclearisation isn’t something that ends badly for them.”
The United States and North Korea have had more than just a turbulent couple of years, we've been on the edge of Nuclear War a few times. This talk between the two countries is not the first and likely won't be the last. As we've learned from the past, both the United States and North Korea are master's of manipulation, but the difference with this summit is, we have two leaders who on the face of it have very similar strategies around manipulation. The politics are very different, by no means am i saying they are both equally bad or good. But this time round, the Trump administration has organised the summit to be a personal out-reach the DPRK not just a typical Diplomatic affair that we are used to seeing when it comes to the States.
I'm not sure whether this will change either countries tune to the other but given that Trump hasn't eased the relationship with China, Cuba or Venezuela, the motives for the United States still leaves me a bit baffled. Sure you can say it's just to denuclearise them and try and ease the tensions but given that Trump has been harsh towards China and Venezuela, one of those countries is armed to the teeth with Nuclear Warheads (an estimated 260 of them) The United States wants something more than Denuclearisation from North Korea. Something is playing out here and it doesn't seem to be as honest as it looks from the face of it.
