We must remember that all men are created equal

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

In these troubled times lately there is a lot of division. Rich vs poor, white vs black and so on. We must all remember that we're all human and on the same team. That's one of the beauties about Steem. We're all here to succeed and with this platform we can all win. Now don't ignore the social problems which plague us. I'm a staunch Libertarian myself. Just remember at the end of the day we're all friends. We're all wanting to better our lives and most likely want the same thing. I enjoy this platform since we can help everyone reach their goals. Remember that everyone is equal at the end of the day. Please don't forget or think otherwise.

“Equality,” in a human context, is a political term: it means equality before the law, the equality of fundamental, inalienable rights which every man possesses by virtue of his birth as a human being, and which may not be infringed or abrogated by man-made institutions, .... with special privileges granted to some and denied to others. The rise of capitalism swept away all castes, including the institutions of aristocracy and of slavery or serfdom.

But this is not the meaning that the altruists ascribe to the word “equality.”

They turn the word into an anti-concept: they use it to mean, not political, but metaphysical equality—the equality of personal attributes and virtues, regardless of natural endowment or individual choice, performance and character. It is not man-made institutions, but nature, i.e., reality, that they propose to fight.....

True Equality is indeed a human term though one with powerful meaning. It means exactly as you said that we are all born with right. Rights which cannot be given or taken. I think well attributes and beliefs are equal. Don't have to think the same as someone for what they believe to be valid to them.

I recommend reading Hello Nazis and Racists. Think it will talk to you :)

Pretty inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

If steem, bitcoin, and a decentralized world doesn't work maybe a future alien invasion will. Jk but sometimes it feels like thats the only thing that could unite us.

Hah hah I have wondered the same myself. I only hope one day we as humans can learn to be better to each other. But I do think cryptos are helping a lot to move the world in the right direction.

You position yourself as "staunch Libertatian". Bravo (no irony). What is interesting in Europe it would be define as social democracy.

Do you mean being a Libertatian would be defined as social democracy? As I understand they are two different things.

Libertarianism in essential for our political system because it favours freedom. There were political parties in European tradition and history which were inspired by libertarianism but injected social reforms contrary to its core ideas to stabilize social order, e.g polish Liberal Democratic Congress, run by Donald Tusk (President of the European Council)
Libertarianism closely aligns with “equality of opportunity” as positive liberty and oppose action to promote either equality or order. Libertarian advocating equality would "practicly" shake hands with social democrat.

I'll admit I saw some of the European models as straying away from a Libertarian philosophy but maybe I'll look into this more. I don't think Libertarian for equality goes against what one would stand for. Being Libertarian means all men are created equal with equal rights to freedom, peace and liberty. Basically the right to be left alone to leave peacefully. Of course that's different from "equality" where one wants to use laws to make everyone equal financially and such. Something a Libertarian should never be for.

"Something a Libertarian should never be for."

I understand your point. Seems valid. But I think that such libertarian stance clashes with pragmatism on political level where "decision makers" have to choose among not ideal solutions. I don't consider idea of society where everyone is libertarian as possible to obtain.

That's fair and I can see why. A lot of people see a true libertarian based society as not practical. I don't personally agree. I think there is a way to apply such principals in a practical and real way. But I respect your opinion.

It's true life isn't always black and white. There is often a not perfect solution. Yet I think in almost all situation which remains more true to the Libertarian belief.
